For those interesting in more information regarding Mr. Monckton may I recommend some further resources:

FarmerMike007 raises some interesting questions regarding Lord Monckton's personal attitude.  It's rather provocative, but the more you listen, the more difficult it becomes to dispute FarmerMike's questions and observations.

Anyone interested in how Monckton justifies himself, would do well to review this rational video:

What could explain Lord Monckton's peculiar behaviour?

Also here's a video of some of the other things Monckton believes himself to be an expert on:
Peter Sinclair: "It turns out that The August and Exalted Lord Monckton 's scientific expertise is not limited to being the world's foremost climate expert -- he is also a medical practitioner of the highest caliber. He claims to have developed a cure for HIV, the flu, malaria, muscular sclerosis, and the common cold."

Lord Monckton: "I've discovered a cure for HIV!"

For more serious reading B.R.Bickmore has done a lot of research on L.M., his website is a font of little know information.

B.R. Bickmore:  Lord Monckton’s Rap Sheet

"If you have been reading my blog, you may have already guessed that I find Lord Christopher Monckton to be a fascinating character.  But given his hearty acceptance by the climate change contrarian community, as evidenced by the fact that he has TWICE been asked by Republicans to testify about climate change before committees of the U.S. Congress, I ascribe him more significance.
To me, Lord Monckton is a living symbol of the fact that many climate change contrarians will believe anything that seems to support their case, even if it’s coming from the most ridiculous source.  He’s the gift that keeps on giving to folks that are trying to convince the public that we need to do something about climate change.  His strange behavior comes up so often, however, that it’s easy to forget the older examples.  To fully appreciate Lord Monckton, you have to keep in mind the sheer volume of kookiness he produces...

Here's a most interesting comparison between Al Gore and Christopher Monckton.

"In a recent post on climate deniers, one showed up in the comments.  I made a comment about Monckton's status as a leader of the climate denier movement, and how any group that would take him seriously cannot be taken seriously.  In reply, the anonymous denier threw a comment about Al Gore at me.  It occurred to me that the two have more in common than merely being the most prominent spokespeople for their viewpoints, but that Monckton is actually a kind of bizarro-Al Gore, a goatee universe evil version of him.  Usually, climate realists shy away from embracing Gore since he's not an actual climate scientist, and of course he's a politician with plenty of legitimate baggage, but really, if deniers want a side by side comparison, I'm game, let's play:"

Christopher Monckton: One “Lord’s” Leap of Logic

“There is no global warming problem, there isn’t going to be a global warming problem. Sit back and enjoy the sunshine.”
—Christopher Monckton

There are a number of interesting aspects to Christopher Monckton. One is that he’s not actually an expert on climate science. Even in his speech at the ICCC-7 earlier this year, when addressing the challenge of disagreeing with scientists who state that human activities are the main culprit behind global warming, he admitted “It is particularly hard, if like me, you have no scientific qualification to do so.”
He’s lived his life mostly as a journalist although he’s also dabbled in politics,...

Last but not least regarding those claims about Monckton advising Prime Minister Thatcher.

"Thatcher becomes latest recruit in Monckton's climate sceptic campaign
Monckton's use of Britain's former PM illustrates that climate denialism is about politics, not science."

An excerpt:

Viscount Monckton also modestly notes that he was responsible for bringing in "the first computer they had ever seen in Downing Street", on which he "did the first elementary radiative-transfer calculations that indicated climate scientists were right to say some 'global warming' would arise as CO2 concentration continued to climb".
It is perhaps surprising that this novel and important innovation by Viscount Monckton was not recognised by the current minister for science and universities, David Willetts, who was also a member of the prime minister's policy unit between 1984 and 1986. In 1986, "Two Brains" wrote a prize-winning essay on the role of the unit, but mysteriously omitted to mention Monckton's historic contribution.Viscount Monckton also includes an amusing anecdote:
"In 1988 it was my successor at No. 10, George Guise, who travelled one bitterly cold October weekend down to Chequers, the prime minister's country house, and sat in front of a roaring fire writing the speech that would announce a government subsidy to the Royal Society to establish what would become the Hadley Centre for Forecasting. George remembers how he and the prime minister chuckled at the irony of writing a speech about 'global warming' on an evening so cold that he could hardly hold his pen." ~ ~ ~
But although her autobiography notes that she did indeed spend two weekends with George Guise working on her first speech about climate change and the environment, this was actually delivered to the Royal Society on 27 September 1988. And it was not until a year later, in a speech to the United Nations in November 1989, that she announced the establishment of "a new centre for the prediction of climate change"

I'm always amazed at the minor infractions legitimate climate scientists have been getting beaten to death with by denialist, excuse me "skeptics"  . . .
Yet, when it comes to their own, no sin is grievous enough for censure.  What's up with that?
